Presented by van Horen Zeggen & DNK Amsterdam.

In 2023 elsewhere released Circles, Reeds, and Memories: a live album on which Trio Sijstermans / Nutters / van Houdt perform three pieces, each of which written by one member. On the recording, Germaine Sijstermans, Koen Nutters and Reinier van Houdt burst open their instrument-inventory; employing clarinet, harmonium, harmona organ, voices, field recordings, sine tones, objects, and tapes.

The individuals of this three-headed-formation are all composers and musicians who stray horizon-reaching-far into the experimental. All in their own ways. For instance, Sijstermans has wandered great distances on paths of ultra-slow melodies, silence, and instruments. Nutters on those of reductionism and connection—for example through formations as the DNK Ensemble, The Names and The Pitch. And van Houdt roams beyond the fringes of musical notation, focusing on elements as timing, space and memory. These artists and their work all deserve lengthy registries, and we highly recommend you to dig as deep as you can. As a trio, however, they manage to channel a slowly-creeping array of shadows that’s of minuscule & enormous proportions at the same time.

For van Horen Zeggen and DNK Amsterdam, the Sijstermans / Nutters / van Houdt trio will present three works: the world premiere of ‘By a Departing Light - X’ by Eva-Maria Houben, ‘Harmony Series 11 a b c d’ by Michael Pisaro-Liu and ‘A Piece with Memories’ by Koen Nutters himself. We’d love to listen together with you in Salon de IJzerstaven this November.
