Weston Olencki uses their music to explore the “non-linear relationships and unexpected resonances between experimental sound, geography, historicity, and (mostly American) musical traditions”.

For van Horen Zeggen, Olencki will perform in two set-ups. For one, they’ll present all my father's clocks: a piece for extended autoharp, electronics, vibration motors, and an array of chime mechanisms salvaged from grandfather clocks. The work weaves together autobiographical ties to family, nostalgia, time, and Olencki's ambivalent relationships with the American South, where they were raised. For another, Olencki will play on banjo, outfitted with “solenoid motors, transducers, radio transmitters, handmade electronics, and custom software.” As words only can convey so much, please have a listen to Old Time Music (2022) or Pearls Ground Down To Powder (2024).

Weighted with history and nostalgia, yet ‘hot-rodded’ to unbeknown possibilities, Olencki creates a futuristic, precision-machined form of Americana. A form of the genre that (un)digs and (un)dusts links and chains between experimental music, traditional music, contemporary audio tech, obsolete audio tech, artificial intelligence, oral knowledge, alternative pasts and alternative futures.
